Arm Unveils Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU with Integrated AI for Enhanced Mobile Gaming

Mobile gamers increasingly demand richer visuals and smoother gameplay, but delivering desktop-level graphics on mobile devices remains challenging due to power, thermal, and bandwidth limitations. Arm's new Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU addresses this by integrating dedicated neural accelerators directly into the graphics pipeline, enabling AI-driven graphics techniques alongside traditional rendering.
Built as the first AI-native Mali GPU, the G2-Ultra NX supports neural graphics workloads such as Neural Super Sampling (NSS), which reconstructs high-resolution images from lower-resolution renders; Neural Frame Rate Upscaling (NFRU), which generates intermediate frames to boost frame rates; and Neural Super Sampling and Denoising (NSSD), which enhances image quality in complex ray-traced scenes.
These neural techniques reduce GPU workload and memory traffic, allowing developers to create more detailed and responsive mobile gaming experiences. For example, Arm and Sumo Digital's Neural Dawn demo demonstrated up to four times higher performance efficiency and significantly lower memory traffic compared to native rendering.
Alongside neural acceleration, the Mali G2-Ultra NX features a new execution engine—the most significant instruction set upgrade in seven generations—offering up to twice the number of registers per wrap. This enables the GPU to handle more complex scenes efficiently, resulting in up to 24 percent better benchmark performance and 14 percent higher non-AI gaming performance than its predecessor.
The GPU also incorporates Arm's third-generation hardware ray tracing unit, which supports more detailed lighting, shadows, and reflections while reducing DRAM traffic by up to 13 percent on leading benchmarks. Hardware support for Opacity Micromaps improves rendering of transparent geometry, increasing frame rates by 30 percent and reducing ray tracing workload by up to 70 percent in demos.
To facilitate adoption, Arm has developed the Neural Graphics Development Kit, offering tools, APIs, and engine plug-ins that integrate neural graphics into existing workflows without requiring developers to overhaul their pipelines. This ecosystem support aims to accelerate the transition of neural graphics from research to production.
The Mali G2-Ultra NX is part of Arm CSS for Mobile 2, which combines AI-native graphics with system-level optimizations in compute, memory, and software to manage demanding workloads within mobile power and thermal limits. With over 14 billion Mali GPUs shipped to date, Arm leverages its extensive experience to bring advanced AI-powered graphics to billions of mobile devices, enhancing gaming experiences with richer visuals and smoother performance.
