Kevin Mandia, founder of the cybersecurity firm Mandiant, has raised $255.5 million for his new startup Armadin, valuing the company at over $2.5 billion. The Series B funding round was led by Andreessen Horowitz and Accel, with participation from investors including Bain Capital Ventures, Redpoint, 8VC, Google Ventures, and others. This latest round follows a $190 million Series A raised in March, bringing Armadin's total funding to more than $445 million.

Armadin is developing a novel approach to enterprise security tailored for the AI era. Rather than relying on traditional penetration tests, which involve periodic assessments by security experts attempting to breach systems, Armadin employs continuous "agent swarms." These autonomous groups of agents simulate chained attacks by exploiting multiple vulnerabilities in sequence, providing a more dynamic and persistent evaluation of security weaknesses.

This method aims to help organizations proactively identify and remediate security gaps before malicious actors or AI-powered adversaries can exploit them. By continuously testing defenses with AI-driven techniques, Armadin seeks to enhance the resilience of enterprise systems against increasingly sophisticated threats.

The startup's approach reflects a shift in cybersecurity strategy, emphasizing ongoing, automated testing over static, point-in-time assessments. With backing from major venture firms and a valuation exceeding $2.5 billion, Armadin is positioning itself as a key player in the evolving landscape of AI-enhanced security solutions.
