Meta has introduced a pricing model for its new Muse Spark AI system that offers substantial discounts to users who share their interaction data with the company. Muse Spark, designed to support coding and other agent-based tasks, typically charges $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens. However, users who opt into the contributor pricing tier pay just 10 cents per million input tokens and 20 cents per million output tokens, representing roughly a 95% reduction. This strategy aims to encourage users to provide prompts and model outputs, data that is crucial for refining AI capabilities. Meta has faced challenges in sourcing training data, including internal pushback on an earlier employee monitoring initiative. The company has not publicly commented on the new pricing approach. Experts note that access to user interaction data significantly enhances the performance of AI coding agents. For example, improvements in other models have been linked to the use of stored session data for reinforcement learning. However, many professional workflows remain difficult to capture digitally, limiting data availability. Industry observers also highlight that large enterprises often avoid sharing data for model training, preferring enterprise plans that restrict data retention despite higher costs.
