TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 is broadening its focus on artificial intelligence by introducing a new Real World AI Stage alongside its existing AI programming. This addition reflects the growing impact of AI technologies as they extend from digital applications into physical environments.
The Real World AI Stage will explore how autonomous hardware is moving beyond traditional domains like self-driving cars to operate in public spaces, defense settings, homes, and even efforts to revive extinct species. The stage will host experts from companies such as Nvidia, Shield AI, Colossal Biosciences, FieldAI, and Foxglove.
Key sessions include a discussion led by Nvidia’s Head of Physical AI, Les Karpas, on the data challenges facing robotics compared to large language models and self-driving cars. Another session will address safety and reliability concerns for AI systems in critical applications, featuring Shield AI CTO Nate Michael.
Colossal Biosciences CEO Ben Lamm will participate in a conversation about using AI and biotechnology to bring extinct species back, weighing the potential benefits and controversies of such efforts.
Additional panels will cover AI deployment at the edge, where connectivity and latency pose unique challenges, with insights from leaders in defense, space, and industrial AI sectors. Founders from robotics and autonomous system startups will also share lessons on scaling from prototype to production.
TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 takes place October 13 to 15 at Moscone West in San Francisco, gathering over 10,000 participants from startups, technology firms, and venture capital. Alongside the Real World AI Stage, the event will feature multiple other stages covering topics such as AI security, financial technology, energy systems, and startup growth strategies.
