Ángela Karime Venegas Hernández, a 16-year-old student at CETIS 78 in Altamira, Tamaulipas, has developed a novel fire extinguishing device that uses sound waves instead of conventional methods like water or chemicals. Her invention consists of a 12-volt battery, a frequency generator, and a speaker that emits 30 pulses per second. These pulses create vibrations that displace oxygen from the flames, causing the fire to go out within five to eight seconds.

Ángela conducted over 100 tests to verify the device’s effectiveness on various fire types, including wood, flammable liquids, cooking grease, and electronic equipment. The acoustic extinguisher does not produce pollutants or leave any residue, and it poses no risk to the user. Originally a school project, the device has been named “Vortex Tech” and will be showcased by Ángela as she represents Mexico at an international science fair.

This innovation highlights a promising alternative approach to fire suppression that could reduce environmental impact and improve safety in fire emergencies.
