Amazon Prime Video is enhancing its news coverage by adding short-form news clips that include both local and national stories. These clips will be accessible through the News section within the Prime Video app, specifically in the Trending Topics and Local News carousels. Initially available on televisions and other living room devices, Amazon plans to extend this feature to the web and mobile apps on iOS and Android.

The new short-form clips complement Prime Video's existing news content, which is provided by several major news organizations and available across the U.S., even to users without a Prime subscription. While Amazon has not confirmed whether the mobile clips will adopt a vertical video format, they will be designed as brief, on-demand content.

This move positions Amazon Prime Video to compete with platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where younger audiences, particularly Gen Z, increasingly consume news through short, engaging videos. Unlike social media platforms, Amazon is integrating these clips into its streaming service rather than creating a standalone social destination.

Industry trends show that other streaming services such as Peacock, HBO Max, Netflix, and Disney+ have also introduced short-form video content to cater to changing viewer habits. This shift reflects a broader effort to provide news and entertainment in shorter, more digestible formats that fit modern consumption patterns.
