Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, marking a notable change in its laptop lineup nearly a decade after discontinuing the Touch Bar. The new MacBook Pro starts at $2,899, with fully configured models priced as high as $14,549. The top-tier versions, available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, come equipped with Apple's latest M5 Max chip, which includes an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU.

The pricing reflects significant upgrades in hardware, including options for up to 16TB of SSD storage, which alone can add $7,000 to the cost. Memory upgrades are also substantial, with 128GB RAM available for an additional $2,000. Other enhancements, such as nano-texture glass, carry smaller premiums.

This pricing represents a sharp increase compared to the previous generation, where the highest-end 16-inch MacBook Pro was priced at $10,149. The new models will be available for preorder starting October 30, with shipments beginning November 6.

The introduction of a touchscreen MacBook Pro signals Apple's renewed interest in integrating touch input into its professional laptop line, a feature it had previously explored and then abandoned with the Touch Bar. The move comes amid ongoing hardware supply challenges and rising costs driven in part by increased demand for AI-capable systems.
