Meta’s new AI application, Muse, has outperformed ChatGPT in its initial mobile launch phase, based on recent data from market intelligence firm Apptopia. Within the first 12 days of availability in the U.S. and Canada, Muse recorded 1.8 million downloads on iOS, surpassing ChatGPT’s 1.3 million downloads during the same period and region.
Muse’s total global installs reached 2.8 million within those 12 days, and the app quickly rose to the No. 1 spot on the U.S. App Store, overtaking ChatGPT. This growth is notable given that Muse launched on both iOS and Android platforms but only in the U.S. and Canada, while ChatGPT initially launched globally on iOS only.
In terms of user engagement, Muse also leads with 642,000 daily active users in the U.S. compared to ChatGPT’s 231,000 at the same point after launch. On iOS alone, Muse maintains a higher daily active user count of 359,000 versus ChatGPT’s figures.
Apptopia’s data is based on third-party estimates and does not include Meta’s internal metrics. However, the figures suggest Muse has strong potential to become a major app for Meta. The company’s previous success with Instagram’s Threads, which leveraged cross-promotion across Meta’s platforms, indicates Muse may benefit from similar strategies. Muse integrates with Meta’s key apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which could further drive adoption.
According to Apptopia, over 95% of Muse users are also Facebook users, and 63% use Instagram, highlighting the app’s connection to Meta’s existing user base. Meta has not yet released official data on Muse’s performance or commented on the app’s early success.
