The analysis confirms that resistance training significantly improves muscle strength, size, power, endurance, contraction velocity, gait speed, balance, and various physical function measures compared to no exercise. Multiple forms of RT—including standard weight training, circuit training, elastic band exercises, home-based programs, and power-focused training—demonstrate benefits.
Key training variables influencing outcomes include lifting heavier loads (at least 80% of one-repetition maximum) for strength gains, performing 2–3 sets per exercise, training at least twice weekly, and using a full range of motion. Muscle hypertrophy is enhanced by higher training volumes (10 or more sets per week) and eccentric overload techniques. Power development benefits from moderate loads (30%–70% 1RM), lower volume, Olympic-style weightlifting, and fast concentric movements.
Interestingly, factors such as training to momentary muscle fatigue, equipment type, exercise complexity, set structure, time under tension, blood flow restriction, and periodization showed inconsistent effects on training outcomes.
