Apple has announced the AirPods 5, its latest wireless earbuds that deliver top-tier active noise cancellation (ANC) in an open-ear design. The new model offers up to 50 percent more noise reduction compared to the previous generation, AirPods 4, thanks to a redesigned multiport acoustic architecture and advanced computational audio algorithms. Alongside improved ANC, the AirPods 5 feature a more natural Transparency mode that better captures voices and ambient sounds.
Sound quality has been enhanced with next-generation Adaptive EQ and a multiport acoustic design inspired by the AirPods Pro 3, providing richer and more immersive audio. Personalized Spatial Audio is also supported, adapting to individual ear shapes for a dynamic listening experience.
The AirPods 5 integrate hands-free Siri AI capabilities, allowing users to access a more conversational and context-aware assistant. Siri AI can understand personal context from messages, emails, and photos, enabling users to perform tasks like playing recommended songs or navigating to reservations without touching their device. Users can also respond to Siri using simple head gestures. Additionally, Live Translation enables real-time language translation during conversations, accessible via voice commands or physical controls.
Two versions are available: the standard AirPods 5 priced at $129, and a model with a Wireless Charging Case for $149, which adds longer battery life—up to five hours of playback with ANC enabled—and on-stem volume control through swipe gestures. The wireless charging case supports Apple Watch chargers, Qi-compatible chargers, and USB-C.
Apple has emphasized environmental considerations in the AirPods 5 design, using 40 percent recycled materials overall, including recycled plastics and cobalt in the battery. The manufacturing process incorporates renewable energy, and packaging is fully fiber-based and recyclable.
Pre-orders for AirPods 5 began on September 9, 2026, with retail availability starting September 18 in the U.S. and over 65 other countries. Full functionality requires pairing with Apple devices running the latest operating systems. The new Siri AI features are rolling out in beta with iOS 27 starting September 14.
The AirPods 5 represent Apple's effort to bring advanced audio technology and intelligent features to a broader audience at a competitive price point, enhancing user convenience and audio quality in everyday use.
