Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo, marking its entry into the foldable smartphone market. The device features a foldable design with two Super Retina XDR displays: a 7.6-inch inner screen and a 5.4-inch outer screen. Both displays share the same aspect ratio to ensure seamless content scaling when switching between open and closed modes. The inner display includes a nano-texture finish to reduce glare and a hidden FaceTime camera to maintain an uninterrupted viewing experience.
Constructed from grade 5 titanium with a precision-engineered hinge, the iPhone Duo emphasizes durability and a premium feel. It is protected by Ceramic Shield glass on both front and back, offering improved scratch resistance, and is rated IP68 for water, dust, and splash resistance.
Powered by the A20 Pro chip, the iPhone Duo delivers up to 35 percent better sustained performance compared to its predecessor, featuring a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine for advanced AI processing. The device incorporates a custom vapor chamber and dual-battery system to manage heat and provide all-day battery life, supporting up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display.
The camera system includes a 48MP Fusion Main camera with zero shutter lag, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, and a Center Stage front camera. The foldable design enables new photography features such as Smart Take, which uses AI to capture photos automatically when subjects pose, and Duo Preview, which shows a live preview on the outer display for better framing. Video capabilities include 4K recording at 120 fps in Dolby Vision and enhanced Cinematic effects.
iOS 27 has been optimized for the iPhone Duo’s foldable form factor, introducing multitasking features like Split View and the ability to open two windows of the same app. The user interface adapts dynamically to the device’s orientation and folding state. The new StandBy mode turns the device into a customizable information hub when set down.
Apple also introduced Siri AI, a new conversational assistant integrated with Apple Intelligence, offering contextual understanding and on-device privacy. Wireless connectivity is enhanced with the Apple-designed N1 chip supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, alongside the C2 cellular modem with AI-powered improvements.
The iPhone Duo will be available in star white and night sky colors, starting at $1,999 for the 256GB model. Pre-orders begin October 16, with availability starting October 23 in over 70 countries. Accessories include a folio case with an integrated kickstand and a protective case, both compatible with MagSafe charging.
Apple emphasizes environmental responsibility with the iPhone Duo, using recycled materials such as 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery and recycled titanium in the hinge cover. The device is manufactured using 60 percent renewable energy across its supply chain.
This launch represents a significant shift for Apple, combining foldable hardware innovation with software enhancements to expand user productivity and creativity on the iPhone platform.
